5 Best Countries for the Comfortable Life of Retirees

More people are opting for a retirement life abroad. They probably want to spend their later years in a place with better weather, or maybe just to experience something new. Whatever the reason, if you're looking for the best countries to retire in, options abound. However, consider the cost of living, security, cultural accessibility, and healthcare. Here are the five best countries to consider.

Portugal  Spain  Switzerland  Canada  Greece  Preference

Portugal

This country is located in southern Europe and boasts a temperate climate. It's a great place to retire if you're interested in continuing to travel, as it's easy to hop on a plane to visit other parts of Europe. Portugal is also relatively affordable, with a lower cost of living than most Western European countries. It has the most beautiful tourism spots like Algarve, Carvoeiro Portugal, and others with tons of activities to do.

The healthcare system is excellent and accessible, and you'll find plenty of English speakers around, making it easy to settle in. Research the Portugal retirement visa to understand the relatively straightforward requirements. Also, know the safest places to settle in that are also friendly to senior citizens.

Spain

Like Portugal, Spain is an excellent option if you're looking for an affordable retirement destination in Europe. It has a Mediterranean climate translating to mild winters and warm summers. Spain is a large country, so you'll have plenty of options for finding the right place to settle down.

The cost of living is quite reasonable, especially if you opt to live in a smaller town or village rather than a big city. And, as in Portugal, the healthcare system is accessible.

If you love exploring history-rich towns, Spain offers a lot. The country is also filled with stunning natural beauty, from the beaches to the mountains. It also boasts a large expatriate community, making settling in and making friends easier.

Switzerland

Switzerland is an attractive retirement destination for several reasons. It's a safe and stable country with excellent healthcare. The scenery is breathtaking, and plenty of activities keep you busy, from hiking and skiing in the Alps to exploring quaint villages. You might also enjoy the country's many cultural festivals.

Because it's one of the wealthiest countries in the world, Switzerland has a higher standard of living, making it a comfortable place to retire. It's also safer, with a lower crime rate than most countries. Its senior citizen population is growing, so you'll find plenty of activities and amenities geared towards retirees.

Canada

Canada should be on your list if you're looking for an affordable retirement destination with good healthcare. The cost of living is lower than in the US, and the country has a large expatriate community. You'll find plenty of activities to keep you busy, from hiking and skiing in the mountains to exploring quaint villages.

The healthcare system is accessible, and you'll find plenty of English speakers around, making it easy to settle in. Because of the country's vast size, it's easy to find a place to retire that suits your budget and lifestyle. Also, know the safest places to settle in that are also friendly to senior citizens.

Greece

Greece is an excellent choice if you are looking for an affordable retirement destination with good weather. It has a rich history and culture, and you'll find plenty of English speakers. If you love the tourist life, there are plenty of beach towns to explore. The Parthenon, the Acropolis, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus are key attractions.

Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos are some of the most popular tourist destinations. However, there are many other beautiful places to retire in Greece, especially if you're looking for a quiet and relaxed lifestyle.

Your Preferences Dictate The Choices

As you will realize, many options exist for retirees looking for ideal places to live comfortably. It depends on your preferences, available resources, and healthcare needs. However, these five countries represent some of the best places to retire comfortably.
